Exhibition

Yesterday was the opening ceremony of the final project exhibition held by one of the 063 groups. As was usual, I as their lecturer had to attend the exhibition and gave them my warmest support.
The exhibition was fabulously done! They used a lot of confetti in “odd shape wood” to creatively form some interesting products such as, table lamps, accessories, picture frames..etc. May be they wanted to make their exhibition 有”声”有色, they reserved a corner for singing session. First of all, I thought they had invited singers to perform, because the performance of the vocal and guitar skills was really great. Finally I realized that it was actually staged by our students! Never judge the book by its cover! Our students not only good at designing but also have other talents! I Really feel proud of them!
Out of a sudden, I heard Shan Li yelled my name “Ben Chan” while I was viewing the exhibits. Gosh! She wanted me to sing a song! I tried to run away, but I was blocked by some students, I had no way to escape. If I am well prepared, I really do not mind performing, but I wasn’t prepared for this at all! This was not the worst, the worst thing was when Min (our animation lecturer) came in at that moment. She used to be a singer and has a very powerful vocal. For sure, Shan Li and all of the students grabbed this opportunity to invite her to perform. Min performed 2 songs with her fantastic vocals.. so great! Poor me, I had to perform after her. Imagine no more, what a big difference in our singings in comparison! Not familiar with the song, not familiar with the lyrics, out of tune.. ha! So malu!

Tell me your stories..

You can post anything about your recent life. 091 has shown their life stories at my Self-promotion presentation last week (Eg: a pair of extraordinary glasses by small devil, an aquarium full of candles by a 'si-wen' girl, puppets by an anti-upgrowing girl etc). So, I would like to invite you to share your ideas (or together with your visuals) in my blogs, if you like... :p

Our Culture

What does culture mean to you?

The thoughts and lifestyle of Japanese, especially of the new generation stand head and shoulders above all the others. In contrast they have been renowned for their courtesy and manners in all matters contrasting with the stereotype that modern people should be arrogant. Thus, the best practice of this community has become their unique culture until now.

Thailand is a Buddhist country but does allow prostitution in their common business. These angel and demon extremes collectively shape the identity of Thailand, allowing the local citizens to live in a unique culture.

As we have been brought up in Malaysia, what culture does you proud? Why is our culture tarnishing compared to that of Japan, Thailand and all that in your mind? We don't have our own identity, Do we?

Feel free to leave your opinions..

School Based Assessment

I just received some information as below from my OUM classmate. It is regarding School Based Assessment in Malaysia, i do not know how true is it. Please give some feedback after read.

Starting from next year, all Yr 1 pupils will be the pioneer group starting on our new system of education where less emphasis will on exams! 70% will be school based, that means practically all that they say, write and do in school will be part of evaluation. In other words, their school work, projects, oral, co-curriculum will be evaluated. The UPSR will only comprise 30% of the whole evaluation.

The Form 1's will also be starting it. Theirs will be 50% school based and 50% PMR. SPM students will face a 30% school based evaluation and 70% SPM.

What do you guys think? Will parents now ensure their children be more hardworking, and more obedient? In private schools, will parents be making more complaints and try to influence their children's marks? Or will they be nicer to the teachers??
